all these changes/conversions are not reversible. make sure you have good back ups for ur projects. Go from 6 to 7 and then from 7 to 8. There are two versions available to you: 7.5.1 is the latest Windows Server Edition version with the same resource requirements as your current system. Version 8.0.1 is the very latest version but it's on the IBM Information Server - it needs more resources to run but it delivers far more administration and reporting features. You need to evaluate your hardware in each environment (dev, test, prod) to determine whether you can move to 8.0.1 or need to stay on 7.5.1 and upgrade to 8 later.
